Meet Robert Redd

My name is Robert Redd and thank you for visiting my author page. I live in central Florida, south of the “world’s most famous beach.”

71JCPOHm2yL._UX250_My main historical interests are the Civil War and the history of the area I live in. I am one of those very lucky people who have a great job in the field of history. I currently serve as the Cultural Coordinator for the County of Volusia.  I also served as Executive Director for the New Smyrna Museum of History for four years. I also served as a volunteer member of the Volusia County Historic Preservation Board.  Please realize that all posts and comments are my own and do not represent the views of the County of Volusia.

I am what would most likely be called a “regional”, or “local” historian. I write about the area I know; Florida. I don’t have a particular time period I specialize in but rather write about what interests me. If it’s interesting and there’s a need I will pursue it. Trust me, the ideas are endless.

My third book, published by Arcadia/History Press, was released in September 2016.

My friend Bob Grenier and I are working together on a book that will help to honor veterans of the Korean War who have lived in Florida. I am also in the very early research phases on a couple of book ideas. If these work out I will be sure to update my page.

I have been blessed to receive solid constructive advice from other authors and hope to be able to do the same for others. If you would like to contact me please see my “contact” page.

I am proud to be a member of the following organizations:
American Association For State & Local History

Civil War Trust

Florida Historical Society

Florida Trust for Historic Preservation

Lake County Historical Society

Mary S. Harrell Black Heritage Museum

National Trust for Historic Preservation

Palm Coast Civil War Round Table

St. Augustine Historical Society

Southeast Volusia Historical Society

Southern Historical Association

West Volusia Historical Society

Should I be a member of your organization? Please contact me with more information.

Dear Dr. Redd: As the author of “Lincoln’s Bold Lion: the Life and Times of Brigadier General Martin Davis Hardin,” I was interested to know if you ever read my book and what you thought. I read your “History of St. Augustine in the Civil War” and found it useful. As you know, General Hardin was a long-time winter resident of St. Augustine, where he lies buried with his second wife in the National Cemetery. Curious in Tallahassee, Jim Huffstodt
